Old Fashioned 4th of July: Food trucks, Fireworks, and Free Music!

You already know that the Corry Area Arts Council hosts Thursdays in the Park. But did you realize that in 2019 that Independence Day just so happens to fall on THURSDAY, JULY FOURTH? Well, we noticed – and then we got the wild idea of hosting an Old Fashioned Fourth of July festival!

Join us on July 4th, as we feature live music, food trucks, and a day of festivities! A kid’s corner with activities and crafts is planned. Vendors are still welcome to register by emailing the arts council. Registration is free; we’re simply asking, if you can, that a donation of any size you see fit be made to the Arts Council at the end of the day.

We kick off at 12:00 noon in the City Park.

MUSIC:
At 1PM, we’ll feature music from Bill Beggs and the Dixie Doodlers.
At 3PM, Kokomo Time Band will ease us from the afternoon in to the evening.
Then at 6PM, your favorite act from last year Happy Days returns to Corry!

EVENTS:
11:30 AM: Decorate your bicycle, before coming down to the park – the more patriotic the better! We’ll do a couple of laps around the park, the judges will have a chance to rank the bikes and a prize will be awarded to the most patriotic bicycle after the opening ceremonies!

2:45 PM: Between the first two bands, we plan on having a HOT DOG EATING CONTEST (sponsored by Fat Monn’s Grub)! Winner takes home $50 cash! Registration is open now and costs just $10. Only 10 slots are open. You can register in advance by paying with PayPal, or by sending us a message on Facebook to arrange a cash payment (see the registration page for details).

5:45: Just before Happy Days takes the stage, we’ll be having a PIE EATING CONTEST (sponsored by Perkins Family Restaurant)! Winner takes home $50 cash! Registration is open now and costs just $10. Only 10 slots are open. You can register in advance by paying with PayPal, or by sending us a message on Facebook or an email to arrange a cash payment (see the registration page for details).

The music is slated to wrap up around 8PM, leaving an hour for people to start migrating north, to the Corry PA American Legion post 365, out by the Soccer Fields. Why? Fireworks, of course! Join us around 9, 9:30 (sundown!) for a great fireworks show to be put on by Gibson Fireworks!

This event is a part of our regular Thursday in the Park Concert Series, and is sponsored by Corry Community Foundation, Erie Arts & Culture, with additional considerations sponsored by Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority.

Slim and Red, 6/13/2019

UPDATE: We will be INDOORS at our rain location tonight! Please join us at the Relevant Church at 100 W South St, Corry, PA 16407! Music begins at 7 PM!

This Thursday we feature returning local husband and wife duo Slim and Red to the City Park! Familiar songs spanning multiple decades will encourage concert-goers to tap their toes and sing along. Corry Radio 98.9 noted that one of Slim and Red’s original songs, Lightbulbs Die, was the number ten most requested song last year! According to the band’s Facebook page, this pair has been “together since 1998; we grew our Love into music in 2011.” With love and positivity, they remind listeners of an important message: “Remember, we are all here to change the world.”

Thursday in the Park would not be possible without the generosity and support of the Corry Community Foundation and Erie Arts & Culture.

Mayflower Hill, 6/6/2019

This Thursday, we’ll be opening our Thursday in the Park Concert Series with returning country act Mayflower Hill! Their first year was a big success for us, attracting all ages for their blend of modern and classic country hits, as well as classic rock! Mayflower Hill has opened for famous country artists such as Jo Dee Messina and LOCASH. They feature a number of familiar covers and excel at playing their own excellent original songs! According to their own Facebook page, the band sings about “Trucks, Beer, and Women.” We are thrilled to have them back in Corry!

Thursday in the Park would not be possible without the generosity and support of the Corry Community Foundation and Erie Arts & Culture.

Missoula Children’s Theatre 2019 Registration Forms

The Corry Area Arts Council Auxiliary presents Peter and Wendy for 2019’s Missoula Children’s Theater performance. Registration forms were sent home from school with students this week. Students at the high school level can ask their teachers for forms, as they were only originally given five per classroom. But, whether you’re home schooled or if your child does not have a registration form for any other reason, don’t worry! You can download and print your own, or you can easily pick one up from Kristen at the Corry Public Library!
